Wiki Maintenance

The wiki is not installed from an operating system package. Consequently, the software must be manually kept up-to-date.

The simplest approach is to subscribe to the MediaWiki-announce email list. This will give you notice of when the software must be updated.

Announcements are expected to include links to instructions as to how to perform an upgrade.

There are archives of the MediaWiki-announce mailing list, should you need to look for a missed announcement.

Nginx Configuration Maintenance

When updating MediaWiki it is best-practice to also check the integration with the Nginx web server. To do this, compare the recommended Nginx configuration supplied by Mediawiki with /etc/nginx/snippets/mediawiki_shorturl.conf.orig. Then update the configuration that's actually used,/etc/nginx/snippets/mediawiki_shorturl.conf, correspondingly.

Don't forget to update /etc/nginx/snippets/mediawiki_shorturl.conf.orig to the changed recommendations, and leave a note in a comment at the top as to when the configuration was downloaded.
